21 - 23: San Diego Jazz Party!
This ultra-fun, ultra-classy event actually takes place in Del Mar, California, at the Hilton Hotel; just across from the famous Del Mar carriage racetrack. The SDJP began perhaps forty years ago in San Diego, and migrated north to nearby Del Mar. It features about twenty-five world-class players from all over the USA, who share a common love for swinging and good humor. Dan has been a part of the party since its early days, and always looks forward to the annual reunion with his musical colleagues and friends. This year, the party presents Denny Ilett, a very special guest from England. On Friday evening, Denny will present a tribute to Frank Sinatra. Additionally, vocalist Liz Shapiro will return to sing with her band, The Triggermen. Please join the fun, and join the SDJP family. Please consider sponsoring a musician's performance. Your donations are appreciated. For details, please visit: www.sdjp.org
MARCH 2025
6 - 9: Dan returns to the Jazz Bash by the Bay in beautiful Monterey, CA. He'll perform all weekend on both trombone and trumpet as a guest artist with various friends. This oh-so-fun event is made-to-order for traditional jazz fans! www.jazzbashmonterey.com
29: Dan will perform with his long-time friend, Jeff Hamilton, at San Francisco's hippest book emporium: Bird & Beckett Bookstore. Like Dan, Jeff was a "charter member" of the legendary Sunset Music Company. Jeff played drums for that band. At the B & B, Jeff's talent at the piano will be on display. His unique, personal style draws upon pianists from an earlier era, including Jelly Roll Morton and Earl "Fatha"" Hines. Jeff's piano work can also remind one of the living legend, Ray Skjelbred--one of Jeff's and Dan's heroes--who was originally booked for this performance. (Ray hopes to perform at the Bird & Beckett in the near future).
Cornetist Marc Caperone and bassist Mikiya Matsuda will round out the group called the UNNAMEABLE QUARTET. This is a rare opportunity to see Dan in the Bay area, surrounded by swinging sympaticos!
The hot jazz starts at 7:30pm, until 9:30pm.

It's a breathtaking place, and the Hotel Ascona provides the perfect setting for the ten-day jazz event. (Dan is booked to perform for the final four days). You can reserve tickets and lodging at the Hotel for half of the event, or the whole ten days).

This year, the same gang returns for "Pinkafeld 2." augmented by trumpeter Jon-Erik Kellso, and vocalist Denise Gordon, from England. The recorded results of the 2022 recordings will be available soon. Stay tuned for word about this new series of soulful offerings!

Iris and Dan hope to attract local trombonists who would like to hone their improvising skills at this special one-day "master class" with Dan. Please contact Dan for pricing, location, and other details: Info@DanBarrettMusic.com
MAY 29 - JUNE 1: Dan returns to the place where his jazz career in Europe started: Breda, the Netherlands. It was for the Breda Oude Stijl Jazz Festival (now the Breda Jazz Festival) that Dan made his first trip overseas--in 1977--with the legendary Sunset Music Company. Drummer Jeff Hamilton and their close friend, the late John "Butch" Smith, were important participants in those early years of the Festival. They have both been guests at the event many times over the years.
Now, a full forty-seven years later, Jeff and Dan will return (with several other American and Dutch musicians) to present a tribute set to their friend Butch Smith, who passed away in October 2024. Of course, they also look forward to reuniting with their Dutch friends (all of whom loved Butch), and playing some swinging jazz in Butch's honor. If you can attend, you'll be a part of one of the most memorable festivals yet!

JUNE 2025
6 - 8: Dan returns to Odessa, Texas, for the 59th (!) Annual West Texas Jazz Party. The WTJP is produced by the West Texas Jazz Society (WTJS), and is the longest-running jazz party of its kind in the world. Dan was first invited in the mid-1980s, and is proud to have been included nearly every year since then. Please consider attending this important, historical and FUN event! For info: www.wtjs.org
26 - 29: Dan returns to Bülach, Switzerland, for the Bülacher JazzTage ("Bülach Jazz Days") Festival. This long-running event takes place in one of the most charming Swiss towns, and brings together all-star players from several countries to converse in their common language: jazz. Please try to be a part of this festival. You won't regret it!
JULY 2025
AUGUST 2025
6 - 16: Dan returns to the Pacific Northwest--specifically Eugene, Oregon--to once again perform at The John G. Shedd Institute for the Performing Arts (a.k.a."The Shedd") . The occasion is the Oregon Festival of Music ("OFAM").
The virtuoso jazz vibraphonist Chuck Redd is the Musical Director for this two-week event, produced by Jim Ralph.
OFAM presents big bands and small jazz combos, but that isn't all. The world-class musicians (personally selected by Chuck and Jim) are joined by terrific singers and dancers, all of whom present the greatest songs by great American composers. At OFAM, each evening is a glowing tribute to producer Jim Ralph's lifetime love affair with the Great American Songbook.
AUGUST 29 - SEPTEMBER 1: Dan will be one of the special guests at the Hot Jazz Jubilee, in Sacramento, CA. Dan played this event in 2017 with his friend, drummer Vince Bartels. Dan is happy to have been invited to return. He'll perform as a guest with various groups over the fun weekend.
OCTOBER 2025
22 - 26: Dan returns for his umpteenth year as a guest soloist at the Roswell Jazz Festival in Roswell, New Mexico. This special event is the only one of its kind, in that it combines swinging jazz with flying saucers and aliens. (Well...not really, but Roswell is a fun town, with references to UFOs and extra-terrestrials. Please join us; you'll see...)
The festival has venues all over town, and is fun for everyone. The event's informal atmosphere allows the audience to meet and get to know the musicians much more than many other jazz festivals.
NOVEMBER 2025
16 - 30: Dan returns to Denia, Spain for a slew of hard-swinging gigs with his Spanish buddy, Enric Peidro. Enric is one of Spain's leading tenor saxophonists, who bridges the worlds of true jazz and swing dance. (There are a few snobs who forget that jazz was originally music for dancing. Enric knows how to get the dance floor crowded, while his tenor playing recalls heroes like Ben Webster and Illinois Jacquet). Please find the itinerary at Enric's website: enricpeidro.com

7: Dan returns to the Teagarden Jazz Festival, in Sacramento, California. This unique event presents over a dozen student bands over the course of the day. each band performs two or three numbers. They then receive constructive criticism and helpful suggestions toward improving their performances. (The name of the event make sone think of the legendary jazz trombonist Jack Teagarden, but is actually a tribute to Jack's sister, pianist Norma, whose generous endowment (in addition to private donations) continues to fund the Festival.
Dan will be performing later in the afternoon with a band comprised of the event's talented instructors. teagardenjazzfestival.org

OCTOBER 2026
1 - 4: Dan will return for his fourth appearance at the Redwood Coast Music Festival in rustic Eureka, California. This great festival features a variety of music, from New Orleans-styled jazz to the 1930s "swing" style, to Western Swing, boogie-woogie, rockabilly, and rhythm and blues. Producer Mark Jansen knows who to call, and gets the best. Furthermore, his understanding of how to organize the event has made it one of the smoothest-running festivals anywhere on earth!
The venues are "all over town," but Eureka is a small town, and there are many very convenient shuttles to and from the participating hotels. In addition to being a guest with friends' bands, Dan is excited to once again lead his "Old-Fashioned Jazz Band," and maybe lead a set with the band he calls the "Full Moon Orchestra." If you put this one on your calendar, you're sure to have a great time. rcmfest.org
