In the summer of 2012, Dan accepted an invitation to play regularly at Disneyland, in Anaheim, CA.  This gives him a "home base" when he's off the road.  Dan performs four to five days a week in and around New Orleans Square. He’s featured on trombone with the Jambalaya Jazz Band, led by his friend, trumpeter, Rusty Stiers.  Later in the week he switches to cornet for sets with reedman Kenny Treseder and the Royal Street Bachelors.

If you're ever at "the Park," please drop by and say hello.

MARCH 2016

Dan joins several of the finest jazz players in the Los Angeles area for a very special evening of jazz. The raison d'etre is a benefit for pianist Llew Matthews, a mainstay on the southern California jazz scene. Llew has had his share of health woes recently.  Additionally, Llew and his wife Deny'ee are preparing to relocate to another state. We all need a little help now and then, so now is our chance to show Llew and Deny'ee some much-needed support.

The event is hosted by Wayne Biessman, who has been doing good things for jazz musicians and the jazz community for several years now. He, like Llew, deserves our support. Here are a few details:

APRIL 2016

Dan returns yet again to the Atlanta Jazz Party. The venue is a new one, but most of the faces (both on and off the stage) will be familiar to those having attended in the past. This long-running party focuses on more traditional jazz, but with this year's outstanding line-up, be prepared for more than a few surprises along the way. www.atlantajazzparty.com

MAY 2016

Dan flies to Bern, Switzerland for a week at Marian's Jazz Room. Marian's Jazz Room is located in the basement of the beautiful Hotel Inner Enge, where the band will be staying for the week.

Dan will be on trombone with a simply terrific band led by his close friend, piano phenom Rossano Sportiello. Rossano has assembled a true "all-star" band:

  • Randy Sandke, trumpet
  • Harry Allen, tenor sax
  • Scott Robinson, saxes and probably another rather odd instrument or two...
  • Ken Peplowski, clarinet
  • Nicki Parrott, bass and vocals
  • Ed Metz, Jr., drums
With the addition of Rossano and Dan, this incredible unit should be swinging from the first note.  www.mariansjazzroom.ch

Dan returns to Odessa, Texas for the West Texas Jazz Party. This year, the party turns fifty! It is now the longest-running jazz party in the United States. The venerable event--produced by the West Texas Jazz Society--features twenty-one (!) of Dan's favorite musicians, who are also good friends. Most fans have been attending for many years, and the party has a warm, "family" feeling about it. Come and join the family! www.wtjs.org

26: Dan will lead his local quartet--the Delta Four--for three sets of hot, swinging jazz at the Barley Forge Brewery in Costa Mesa, California. The unique venue features good food and award-winning craft beers, and now presents excellent local jazz groups. What a concept!
If you happen to be in Costa Mesa on May 26th...be there or be square! (8-10:30pm) www.barleyforge.com

JUNE 2016

24-26: Elkhart Jazz Festival
In addition to being the town that produced countless musical instruments heard (for better or worse) all over the world, Elkhart, Indiana is also home to a long-running, lively jazz festival! This year, Dan returns with his good friend and everyone's favorite vocalist, Rebecca Kilgore. Becky is the leader this time around, and along with Dan the group includes the non-pareil pianist from New York, EhudAsherie and their longtime buddy Joel Forbes on bass.www.elkhartjazzfestival.com

28 JUNE - 2 JULY 2016:
Dan flies from Elkhart to Vienna (!), to join the tenor saxophone legend Scott Hamilton for a week at the delightfully-funky jazz club,Jazzland. Dan and Scott used to see each other more often when they both lived in New York City. Dan of course now resides in southern California, and Scott lives in Italy. So, this is a rare -and for Dan, a very welcome--opportunity to renew their old acquaintance. They'll be aided and abetted by different local players each night. Scott and Dan will no doubt draw upon their vast knowledge (and deep love of) swing-era material for the week's repertoire. Fun and swinging! As the man said, who could ask for anything more?  www.jazzland.at

JULY 2016

Dan's European trip culminates with his return--as an instructor--to the Jazzin' July Workshop.  This year, the Workshop takes place July 4-9, 2016.

This week-long jazz workshop has been an annual event for more than a decade, and is a highlight of Dan's year. The teaching staff is comprised of several of Europe's finest musicians who play in the traditional-to-swing style (and beyond).Dan is proud to be the Workshop's American instructor, having returned every year since the Workshop's inception.

The Workshop itself consists of two daily classes, plus jam sessions every evening. Although the emphasis is of course on the music, there is plenty of time for socializing at the bar during the evening sessions. Most of the students have been attending for several years (some since the beginning), and the group now feels like "family."

The exciting week closes with two evening performances at a gala "Jazz Dinner," featuring the students's bands and the instructors' band. Both evenings are open to the public. For more info, please visit producer (and friend) Frank Roberscheuten's website: http://www.frankroberscheuten.com/Click on theWorkshops link. Then, at the Workshops page, scroll down to the information about Jazzin' July. There's also a link to a reproduction of the Workshop brochure, which has comprehensive details about the hotel and the Workshop itself.

Cleveland Classic Jazz Party (www.alleghenyjazz.org) (This event was originally the "Conneaut Lake Jazz Festival" many years ago. It migrated to Chautauqua, NY, which was its home for many years. Recently, the party has moved again to the beautiful Inter-Continental Hotel in Cleveland, Ohio and gave itself a new name: The Cleveland Classic Jazz Party! Producer Nancy Griffith has assembled yet another terrific, all-star line-up of players who specialize in more "Traditional" and "Swing" styles, and who love the special songs of the "Great American Songbook."  It's always a special event, with a "family" feeling about it, and with lots of time to socialize with the musicians.

Allegheny Jazz Party is now the Cleveland Classic Jazz Party!

New name -- same great party.  This year's giant weekend of classic jazz will be held September 15-18. 2016, at the Cleveland InterContinental Hotel and Conference Center.  Don't miss this chance to see the country's best jazz musicians in a full weekend of music you can only hear at our event!

27-30: Colorado Springs Jazz Party
Dan played this new version of the classic Colorado Springs Jazz Party last year, for the first time in many years. Just as the other musicians, Dan was pleased with the changes that have been made. This is once again a top-notch, first-class jazz event. In fact, last year was such a success, the Jazz Prty Committee unanimously decided to simply bring back all of those who performed last year! Hey, if it ain't broke, and all that...
